The Pillars of the Earth (mini-series) - ReviewAugust 29, 2010 2317The Pillars of the Earth is easily the best show of the year. Based on the novel of the same name, this series very accurately adapts it to television. The story is a fictional adaption of "The Anarchy," the period in which England was plunged into civil war from 1135-1154. This forms the background of the story but what truly makes the series is the characters and the minor conflicts throughout. I can't find a single flaw with this series. The acting is near perfect. The story is great. The characters are believable and realistic. The cinematography and music perfectly contribute to the atmosphere of the series as well. I suggest anyone interested in movies or literature about the middle-ages watch this show. It has only eight, 55 minute episodes, so it isn't very long. I rate the series 8 out of 10. It is noteworthy however, that Eddie Redmayne, who I said was a bad actor in my review of Black Death, though not by name, proved me wrong in this series. He may not have been good in Black Death, but he did a great job in this series. |
