This is an addition to my previous post about War of the Worlds and the HMS Thunder Child.

I just wanted to call attention the the fact that the ship was mentioned in the War of the Worlds musical, done by Jeff Wayne. In fact, Thunder Child is even the name of one of the songs, of which there are only thirteen, two of which are epilogue. So it seems, at least Jeff Wayne understands the Thunder Child's significance in the novel.

I think the line, "dashing hopes for our deliverance, as we watch the sinking wreck" says it best.
