Temple of the Winds - Review

April 27, 2010 2232

Temple of the Winds is the forth book in the Sword of Truth series, written by Terry Goodkind.

I heard the series got really bad by the end but I had no idea it would happen so suddenly. I expected the series to slowly progress downhill, but instead, it came to a cliff and dropped right off the edge. During this review you should consider I stopped 34 chapters in, which is roughly half the book. My life is too short to spend finishing this.

One of the things I liked most about previous books in the series was the characterization, however in Temple of the Winds, not a single character is developed successfully. That is, unless Terry Goodkind wanted me to start disliking the protagonists. The only character development that occurs makes me despise the protagonists. Not that they did anything that I could argue was wrong, but they seemed to progress into whiny children.

The story is just irritating. In every book in the series, Richard is faced with some form of great evil. Every time he destroys it and in the process, creates another that is even worse. Every time, without fail. It just gets old. It's the same story over and over again.

In short, Temple of the Winds is not worth the read. I still recommend the first three books though. I only wish I had not already purchased the whole series. That's $50 wasted on the other 10 novels.
