Religious Arrogance

June 10, 2009 2206

Today I had a most interesting discussion about religion with what might possibly have been the most arrogant people on the planet.

It was your basic religious debate until we got onto the subject of Heaven. I stated that one person’s Heaven might be another’s Hell. To support this I gave an example of being in love with someone who hates you. In order for it to be your Heaven then you’d be with the girl you love but in order for it to be her Heaven she would not be with you. So both could not exist in Heaven.

Then they said quite possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard, which is why I am posting. They said that Heaven is God’s idea of the perfect place and if you believe in God then you will simple accept Heaven as perfect.

That just pissed me off. So basically in order to exist in Heaven you can’t have any free will. If there is a god and a heaven and hell, I’d rather be in Hell because at least then I’d have free will, be able to choose weather of not to scream.

Something else interesting that I learned today; you can’t alter a religious person’s opinion simple by stating evidence to disprove it. They will simply ignore it in favor of blind faith. Instead you need to point out the contradictions of their faith.
